Carbon?sensitive pedotransfer functions for plant available water

چکیده

Currently accepted pedotransfer functions show negligible effect of management-induced changes to soil organic carbon (SOC) on plant available water holding capacity (?AWHC), while some studies the ability substantially increase ?AWHC through management. The Soil Health Institute's North America Project Evaluate Measurements measured content at field using intact cores across 124 long-term research sites that contained increases in SOC as a result management treatments such reduced tillage and cover cropping. Pedotransfer were created for volumetric (?FC) permanent wilting point (?PWP). New had predictions similarly accurate compared with Saxton Rawls when tested samples from National Characterization database. Further, new showed substantial effects calcareousness ?AWHC. For an 10 g kg–1 (1%) noncalcareous soils, average 3.0 mm 100 mm–1 (0.03 m3 m–3) all texture classes was found. This related is about double previous estimates. Calcareous soils 1.2 associated SOC, classes. equations can aid quantifying benefits practices be used model drought resilience.

Multiscale Pedotransfer Functions for Soil Water Retention

Soil hydraulic properties are needed in globaland regionalscale circulation models for hydrologic and climate forecasting. They are also necessary in pointand nonpoint-source contaminant transport models. Prediction accuracy of these models is highly dependent on the quality of the model parameters. Collecting the required soil hydraulic parameters by direct measurement at any model grid scale ...

Field-Scale Water Flow Simulations Using Ensembles of Pedotransfer Functions for Soil Water Retention

Using pedotransfer functions (PTF) to estimate soil hydraulic properties may be necessary in soil water flow simulations for large-scale projects or in pilot studies. The accuracy of a PTF outside of its development dataset is generally unknown. The existence of multiple models that are developed and tested in one region, but may perform relatively poorly in other regions, is also common in met...

Scale-Dependent Pedotransfer Functions Reliability for Estimating Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity

Saturated hydraulic conductivity Ksat is a fundamental characteristic in modeling flow and contaminant transport in soils and sediments. Therefore, many models have been developed to estimate Ksat from easily measureable parameters, such as textural properties, bulk density, etc. However, Ksat is not only affected by textural and structural characteristics, but also by sample dimensions e.g., i...
